Each student was given a blank piece of paper in class and drew a line in the middle of the paper (landscape orientation). On this line, the students are creating a 1 measure ostinato in 6/8 or compound duple meter. We have been spending the last two weeks talking about meter!
Each student has a sheet in their "notes" section with 1 measure examples of compound duple meter. When in doubt, copy one of those examples onto your page and practice clapping it! DUE MONDAY: Each student will show me their ostinato and clap it for me! Ms. Schmittle

So glad to have you back again this year! To make sure our year starts off without a hitch, please make sure you have the following accomplished BEFORE your first music class next week. MONDAY
6th grade has been doing awesome on guitars! We will still be using them throughout the end of the year, however we are moving onto preparations for the spring show and doing a lot of sight singing! If you are unfamiliar with solfege, please check out the chart below! Practice your hand signs as you sing up the major scale!
Guitar Update: Students this week figured out melodies on the E and B string and figured out major scales using only one string. Learning by ear is an important skill, especially when using folk instruments. Looking ahead to next week, we will be tackling the two octave major scale! We can play solos and melodies from this scale. Next week students will also be getting a new song... still a surprise!
Playing quizzes this week!
