Students are coming home with their new Yamaha recorders this week! Homework is to label both the recorder and its case with your name. Room 105: Wednesday / Room 107: Friday In class students learned about their recorder embouchure or how we should shape our mouths. We have been forming a "doo" and blowing soft, warm air into the recorder. Rules: 1. Left hand goes on top 2. Make sure the holes are sealed! Fingers flat. 3. Sit tall 4. Let warm air out 5. Play with a "doo" So far... Students have learned 1 note, a B!
Thumb and first finger (pointer) cover the holes. Each child composed a song last week! It came home in their home folder... have them sing it for you!
This week students are learning the notes on the staff and learned a new music game/song... Let Us Chase the Squirrel! No official homework this week! Take some time and learn about our composer of the month or watch some of the weekly videos. Better yet, check out some of the music games on the "resources" tab!

NO MUSIC HOMEWORK THIS WEEK :) Check out the video of the week or the composer of the month page instead!
If you still do not have a binder and 3 dividers, please get this as soon as possible. Coming prepared to class with all materials makes up a part of your participation grade! Each student needs a music folder to keep at school. Make sure this folder is labeled with the student's name and "music." The things in this folder stay in this folder and may travel back and forth to school, I will tell students to put something in their home folder if it needs to go home and stay at home.
Looking forward to a wonderful year! Ms. Schmittle Our next quiz will be on "When the Saints Go Marching In." Get ready to earn your blue belts when we return from spring break... and red belts will not be far behind! Pick up that recorder every day because we are going to start moving more quickly! The tricky part of this piece is the rhythm! Do not forget that you can listen to it online!
